Restoran D' Timur - Segambut

Late lunch at slightly after 2 pm. I was bored of the usual chicken rice but then I spotted this Malay restaurant! They seemed to have quite a few choices so I went in to try.

Nasi campur with chicken, beef tripe, and ulam raja. RM9.50 including a cup of hot tea. I think the price was on the high side.

Ikan keli bakar (grilled river cat fish), bamboo shoot masak lemak with beef tripes and tempeh, and ulam (daun tenggek burung?). RM8.00 including Teh-O. Rubbery skin on the grilled keli.


Another visit: RM9.00 including teh o panas. Grilled stingray, ulam (kacang botol/4 angled beans), and fern shoot/pucuk paku.The skin of those grilled fish were all rubbery. 


Another visit: RM8.00 including teh o. Ulam Raja, kacang botol, and kembong(?) fish.


Another visit:

RM7.50 incl teh o panas. Beef rendang, eggplant with chili, and pucuk ubi & tempeh.


Quite a few dishes and types of ulam to choose from, but of course, nothing like this favorite place of mine.

Pan Mee - Restoran 2828

Dry Pan Mee in Restoran 2828, Taman Sri Sinar.

Dry pan mee. RM4.50. The noodle tasted quite but the soup was laden with MSG! Made me thirsty for the next couple of hours.


The sambal was nice albeit a little too diluted. Still good. I poured it all into my bowl :D.

Xiao Qiu Stinky Tofu

Xiao Qiu chou do fu / stinky tofu (小秋臭豆腐).

I was at the Tuesday night market in Sri Sinar and saw this stall again. I never had the urge to try it but somehow, just decided to try it!

RM2.70 for four pieces. You can smell it from a distance but the smell isn't really that stinky. Nor is the taste.

I can't remember if I have tried this before though. I must have but I really can't remember.

It tastes okay but I guess it's also one of those acquired taste thingies, and one will have to try this stinky tofu a few times to get to really like/love it!

Seafood curry noodle- Restoran Yu Ai

I was in Segambut Utara to run some chores and decided to have an early lunch there! Restoran Yu Ai came to mind.

RM19 for this big bowl. RM17 for small.

It looked really great but tasted just okay. The curry was nice, thick and aromatic, but strongly dependent on curry powder, and at the time of eating, I suspected heavy usage of MSG too.

And of course, as expected, I was very very thirsty for a few hours after eating this bowl of noodle!

There were also fried salmon fillets, small sized lala clams, small oysters and cuttle fish in the bowl.

The curry gravy is quite closed to this one IMO.

For RM19, you get only 4 small/medium small, not very fresh prawns. The heads were almost falling off, and parts of the heads were dark in color already.

Each bowl is cooked individually.

Big pot of red hot curry gravy with tau fu pok


I went there only because I haven't been there for ages. I know I won't be going back there anytime soon. It's just way over-rated and over-priced. You can buy much cheaper curry noodle from here and add your own seafood!

I might check out Sin Kee just a few doors away though.

Siu Chao - Sri Sinar Food Court

This is the "Siu Chao" (小炒) stall in Sri Sinar Food Court.

Sambal petai with minced chicken. RM7.00. For RM1 more, this plate comes with way more petai than the other place here.


Again, this is not the sambal petai I am familiar with. To me, real one should be something like this.

Restoran Nasi Kandar Segambut

RM7 including a cup of teh-O. Pre-fried chicken curry (left), boiled egg in curry gravy (right), and some vegetables.

Again, nothing like the real Penang nasi kandar. Not really too bad but still disappointing.



Restoran Nasi Kandar Segambut is actually location in Taman Kok Doh.

Thai style siu chao Restoran Double Seven

This is more like a Thai style "siu chao". The stall is in front of Restoran Double Seven in Taman Sri Bintang.

Sambal petai. RM6.00 including rice.


Well, this is not really sambal petai. Real sambal petai should look something like this. Not much petai in it. But hey, it's only RM6.00 so I can't complain much.

Sri Sinar Curry House II - Sri Sinar

This is another curry house in Taman Sri Sinar. Just like the other (bigger) one just a stone's throw away, this one has no name either. I will just call it Sri Sinar Curry House II.

RM6.90 for this with a glass of iced lemonade, and papadam.

Dry chicken curry, eggplant and vegetables curry, and papadam too.



Fewer selections compared to the other one, but slightly better in terms of quality i think.

Pan Mee - Sri Sinar Food Court

Pan Mee in Sri Sinar Food Court.

RM4.50, hand torn noodle in clear soup. The noodle was way too soggy for my liking. Overcooked? I like my noodle al dente, slightly springy when I bite onto it. Noodle aside, everything else was quite okay though. Yes, there was MSG, of course :(
