I passed by this "Nasi Ayam Sungai Buloh" /chicken rice place around noon time a few weeks ago and saw a big crowd there so I told myself I had to come back to try it. It didn't happen until today.
The poached chicken looked quite good. Lots of fat, but lucidly quite tender.
Nice crunchy bean sprout.
I also ordered fish ball. Very different swirl type as you can see here. A bit too soft and soggy for my liking. You can also go for pork ball.
The rice was just plain, no flavor at all. I couldn't detect any ginger in it. The chili sauce wasn't potent enough. I also wished there were ginger sauce as well.
It is just next to Hong Leong bank, and at the same block as Kong Mah dim sum.
Price: RM8.40 including a glass of hot herbal drink.

Chong Hwa Curry Laksa-Sri Gombak
I was in the Sri Gombak area around noon today so I swung by Chong Hwa Curry Laksa restaurant for a bowl of curry laksa - something I just needed to do after a very disappointing bowl of curry laksa in Neighborhood food court Menjalara a couple of days ago.
Nice thick gravy with half cooked "siham" (cockles). Yum. The taufu pok (bean curd puff) were nice and tender.
Really not bad. But I still prefer the Penang style curry mee such as this one or this one.
I opted for hor-fun as I dislike the typical yellow noodle with strong lye water taste.
Only siham (cockles) and tau fu pok besides the noodles. No chicken. RM3.80 for small.
Besides curry laksa, this shop sells nasi lemak, pan mee and pork porridge too. I will try the nasi lemak next.
Nice and clean place.
I added a dollop of chili paste for extra kick!
Bottoms up! :D
RM5.10 including a cup of black coffee (kopi-o). RM3.80 for the noodle and RM1.30 for the kopi-o.
Edit: RM4.00 now (Nov 14, 2013)

Finally had a chance to try the nasi lemak there as well.
Nasi Lemak. I actually asked for Nasi Lemak ++ which included ham as well. But the staff got my order wrong. This one was RM6.00
It was okay but not great. The rice, while fragrant, wasn't fluffy. I even bit into tough and dry part at the bottom. The curry wasn't as good as that from my fave stall either.
I much prefer this cheaper (RM4.50) yet way better nasi lemak here.

Acha Curry House - Gasing
I enjoy eating banana leaf rice once in a while but had a rude shock when one of the major curry houses started using fake banana leaf to serve rice on! It's just not the same. Not only the feel but the taste too!
Real banana leaf! Four types of vegetables to choose from. I chose all four. Six types of curry gravies to choose from: onion, dhal, chicken, salted fish, crab, and vegetarian. I had all six on my rice :D. Fried ikan bilis (anchovies) as well.
I ordered fried chicken as well, but forgot to take the photos. Oops :P
The staffs were really friendly and helpful! They also cleared our table when we finished eating.
RM68.70 for four pax, including drinks. All clearly itemized. You can view it large here if you wish to.
Freshly fried fish and chicken
Nice airy place.
No signage on the outside, but it's right at the T junction where you turn in to go to Khunthai.

Curry Fish head-WK Restaurant Ulu Yam
I was in Ulu Yam at around noon time and saw this fish head curry restaurant that was already quite full. I figured it must be good so I walked in a got myself a table, probably the last two available at that time.
And I ordered fish head curry, of course!
It wasn't really my type of fish head as I prefer the more tender type of fish such as red snapper. Grouper was used in this restaurant I believe. Beside this, I also prefer the head to be whole and not cut into pieces as in this case.
I didn't really enjoy the curry gravy either because curry powder was heavily used. I prefer the type made from freshly ground curry paste. However, for RM15, you really can't complain too much. It was still quite an enjoyable meal.
Total: RM 16.30 including one hot Chinese tea.
In KL, I would go to this one.
Address:
Jalan Gurney.

Opens for Lunch only.

Teochew Pork Noodle-Fock Seng Sg Buloh
I was in Bandar Baru Sungai Buloh to try out the pork noodle in Mun Yick which I have been told was good. Unfortunately, it was closed. Only opens for breakfast I think. So I walked around a little bit and found this Teochew pork noodle stall in Fock Seng Restaurant a couple of blocks away.
I actually saw this on a couple of tables. It looked really good to me so I looked around and found the stall selling this and ordered myself a bowl!
Only RM4.00
As can be seen from the menu, you can ask for liver and kidney too in your noodle too!

Char Kway Teow - Joo Hooi Cafe
Joo Hooi cafe is normally always packed because it's so close to Komtar and very easy to find. Most of the patrons are local tourists, I think.
Char Kway Teow with duck egg. RM5.50 I think. Can't remember.
It was pretty good.
The laksa in this cafe is said to be good too. I tried it too long ago so no comment on this one. I will try it when I have a chance in the future.
This cafe is just next to the famous Teochew cendol stall. If you order the cendol for consumption inside the cafe, you have to pay an additional 50 sen!

Roast Pork and Duck-Zhin Ngai Seng
My Ipoh friend brought me to this Restoran Zhin Ngai Seng in Taman Cempaka, Ipoh. He told me it's his favourite roast chicken shop.
As I just had chicken the night before, I opted for roast pork and duck. RM8.30. Self service. You have to wait for your food and bring it to the table yourself.
I didn't hold my expectation too high for a place like this. I first tried the roast duck. It was okay with flavorful meat but the skin wasn't the crispy type I like.
Next, I tried the siew yuk/roast duck. Wow, I was pleasantly surprised. Nice crunchy skin, and really flavorful meat. Totally unexpected.
There are char siew and roast chicken too but I didn't try it.

Lou Wong tauge chicken
My Ipoh friend brought me to Lou Wong tauge chicken for dinner. I stopped going Lou Wong and On Kee as well since quite some time ago because they were too touristy. I prefer other shops like Cowan Street, 15 Tower, and Pak Kong.
The chicken was okay but the sauce was too strong and overpowering. I like the type in Cowan Street better - milder sauce with lots of sesame oil in it.
Plumb and crunchy tauge / bean sprouts
Beef ball
It was nice but a little too soft for my liking. I wished the balls were firmer and more bouncy.
Sorry, forgot to take images of the shop itself. Maybe next time. Low Wong and Onn Kee are huge so you won't miss them.
