There are so many things to eat in Lorong Selamat. The famous/infamous Lau Yee Char Kueh Teow, T&T Prawn Mee, and of course, Oh Chien/Oyster Omelette.
This place is just across the road from Lau Yee Char Kueh Teow, slightly to the left. You can order this and have it brought into Lau Yee Char Kueh Teow shop too, but not the other way round.
Oh Chien / Oyster Omelette...just look at those plump, juicy, yummy oysters!!!
Zooming in on the juicy oysters :D...drool!!!
I know you can't get enough of it so here's another :D
Closed on Tuesday, as with most of the coffee shops in Lorong Selamat.

Ipoh Pak Kong Chicken Rice
Ipoh is my favorite place for stopping over whenever I travel in between KL and Penang. I love the Nga Choi Gai there because the bean sprouts in Ipoh are plump and crunchy. Yum yum. You just can't get the same bean sprouts elsewhere.
I actually prefer to go to Cowan Street Taugeh Chicken but it opens only from 7pm onwards. I don't like touristy places like Lou Wong and On Kee so Pak Kong is a good alternative for me.
Salted vegetable soup (haam choy tong) will be served once you have placed your order. It's simple but nice.
Free flow of home made ginger sauce and chilli sauce, go really well with the poached chicken. Yum. Oh i mixed the two sauces.
I ordered acar, bean sprout and poached chicken for one.
The acar was quite nice, not great, but good.
The bean sprout wasn't good though. Overcooked but that's to be expected because this was cooked in advance. I prefer the more popular serving method in Ipoh where they blanch the bean sprouts and add seasoning and sauces just before serving!
The poached chicken was, however, not bad.

After my lunch in Pak Gong (Point B), I always walk across the road to buy two birds of Yim Guk Gai to go at Aun Kheng Lim (point A), then enjoy a bowl of tau fu far in Funny Mountain (Point C).

Yummy and fragrant yim guk gai (salted baked chicken)
Tau Fu Far...this one was from Lai Kee though. Funny Mountain was closed on that day.

Prawn Mee at Jalan San Peng
I found out about this prawn mee / prawn noodle / har mee / har meen place from a food show on TV and decided to give it a try.
Prawn Mee, nicely garnished with prawns and fish balls. Okay, fish balls are a little odd as I can't remember seeing any Penang version that has this! The broth was nice and natural, not loaded with MSG like in most stalls I have tried. I didn't feel thirsty after eating here:)
They make their chilli sauce fresh every day!
Pork meat balls, firm but not as firm as those commercially available ones. As soon as I sank my teeth onto the first one, I loved it already :)
We also ordered a plate of poached chicken. It was quite good.
This prawn mee stall is right next to a Hindu Temple so it's quite easy to find.
Jalan San Peng, near Pudu LRT station, right next to an Indian temple. Plenty of parking as there's an open air car park right opposite the stall/Hindu Temple. RM2 per entry. It's also about 5 minutes walk from Pudu LRT station.
Operates from 730am to 330pm, closed on Tuesday.

Lala Chong Ara Damansara
After seeing our friend off at Subang airport, a group of us decided to have dinner at Lala Chong.
Crab with salted egg yolk. I found the coating way too thin and the dish a bit too oily.
Sheung Tong Lala (Lala in superior soup). Quite good but i prefer the one in Restoran 126 in Kampung Bukit Tinggie.
Mantis shrimp. The coating was so thick and it was so oily. You couldn't even tell that it was mantis shrimp inside.
Stir fried vege, probably my fave of the night.

Wang Hee Bandar Mahkota Cheras
My friends and I stopped by for lunch at Restoran Wang Hee in Bandar Mahkota Cheras on the way back from a macro tip in Negeri Sembilan. The food there was really good. It was my first time there but it won't be the last time, for sure!
Claypot Haruan Fish (snakehead), really fresh and tasty! Probably my most favorite dish of all! The sauce was a little too sweet for my liking though.
Salted kampung chicken (free range chicken)...like this dish a lot too. Wonderful natural flavor, and the slightly salty sauce really brought out the flavour..yummy.
Marmite pork rib...pretty standard....but still nice.
Shrimp paste pork rib. It was actually pretty good, but we took just one bite and rejected it because it was too undercooked, quite rare, in fact, with reddish liquid (blood) oozing out!
Stir fried choy sum....simple yet really nice.

Yat Yeh Hing, Kelana Jaya
This place is just after the Kelana Jaya LRT station, opposite the St Ignatius Church.
Asam fish. I didn't really like it because the fish was fried. The gravy wasn't really good either. I prefer the one in Loong Fong, Tmn Sri Sinar.
Ham Yue Fah Lam Po (Pork belly with salted fish). It was just so so. Too heavy on the seasoning.
Stir fried kai lan. Not my cup of tea either. I prefer it to be more plain, without the yellowish sticky sauce. Just garlic will do aka Hong Kong style!
I think this place is probably more famous for its steamboat but I have never tried it so I don't know. I think I will give it a try in the near future.

Quan Le Yan Seafood, Singapore
After our morning macro workshop in Singapore, all of us went to this nice Teochew restaurant in Tiong Bahru for some wonderful Teochew cuisine.
Teochew style steamed pomfret. One of the best ways to enjoy nice fresh fish. My other choice would be Cantonese style steamed fish.
Teochew style braised duck, Lor Ack. If you are in KL and want to get really good one, try Kam Heong in PJ.
Pork jelly. Braised pig's leg made into jelly form, sliced and served cold.
Oyster omelette.
Not sure what this is called?
There was one more dish - kangkong belacan, which I didn't photograph. Too busy chowing down the great food:D
We wanted yam paste /taro paste as well but it was all sold out :(
One for the album while waiting for the food to be served :)
