Kafe Deli Bakery

I was in Kota Damansara to run some errands and recalled that a friend recommended this place for its curry mee.

RM5. Curry hor fun. Only some boring fish balls, fried bean curd (tau fu pok) and long beans. No siham (cockles) or anything else. The only thing that was in abundance was MSG. I was thirsty for the next few hours.

The two stalls near my house serve much better and cheaper curry noodles so I don't see any reason why I would go back for this one here. Having said that, I might still try other dishes in this cafe though if I happen to be in the neighborhood.

Extra large teh o ais limau. RM4.20...wow! Only 2 limau in it. Very stingy! I could taste the tea, but hardly the limau.

Tasty Chicken Rice Kota Damansara

Tasty Chicken Rice is located in Kota Damansara. I read somewhere that this place was the winner of  Malaysian Hainan Chicken Rice Open Competition champion in 2007.

Roast chicken...okay..nothing to shout about.

Bean sprout. Quite plump and crunchy, but still not as good as Ipoh mali punya!

Lan Je steamed tilapia Kota Damansara

I have heard of Lan Je Rawang and passed by that place many times, but never had a chance to try it.

Steamed tilapia. Fresh, tender, and no muddy smell. But way too much MSG!!!

Fu Yu Yau Mak, stir fried Chinese lettuce with fermented bean curd 腐乳油麦, one of the best i've ever tasted.

Two steamed tilapia, and one vege you see above, plus 2 extra bowls of rice and tea, RM44. It's a shame that they had to put so much MSG in the food. I was thirsty for more than 3 hours after eating there. Same goes for the outlet in Aman Puri. MSG, MSG, MSG!

The menu. No pork served

Steam King

...with steamed fish.

The restaurant I am talking about is Steam King in Dataran Sunway, Kota Damansara. It's on the street right next to where Ben's Steamed Fish Head is.

I ordered "song yu" (fresh water carp) but they didn't have it. I settled for a "pak so kong" (catfish). This place definitely offers more frills than Ben's Fish Head. I was served peanuts as appetiser, cut raw chilli and minced garlic in nice little plates, and soup before my meal, then barley as dessert after my meal.

As with all steamed fish dishes, as long as the fish was fresh and you do a decent job steaming it, it can't get too bad. The catfish was steamed Cantonese style. Plain and simple, yet so tasty. The saltiness of the special soy sauce for steaming fish really brought out the taste in the fish. However, I felt that the fish was slightly over-steamed as the flesh was a little bit on the chewy side.

The bill came to slightly more than 30.00RM. I can't quite remember as it was more than a week ago. Frankly, I still prefer the no-frill shop such as Ben's. I could get better fish at cheaper price - less than 20RM.
