Restoran De Leema - Selayang

Restoran De Leema, Bandar Baru Selayang. This will be a short and quick one. Nothing much to talk about. Just ordinary but ridiculously overpriced nasi campur.

RM9.40 for this including teh o ais limau (iced lemon tea).

A small ikan keli (cat fish), paku pakis, and nangka (tua). The quality was quite bad. I bit into chewy and tough paku stems which I had to spit out. Same went for the tough and chewy nangka. Old nangka must have been used instead of young ones.

For about the same $$$, I can have much bigger keli and other great dishes in Anis Putri!!!

Jin Chwan, Bei Hai Restaurant

Seafood dinner at Jin Chwan/ Bei Hai restaurant in Selayang again.

Steamed crab in egg white. I like my crab either baked or steamed so i can enjoy the original flavor.

Steamed red grouper (七星斑). The price for a live fish before cooking was RM158 but we had it for 50% off since it wasn't "swimming" anymore:D

Sheung Tong La La (La La clam in superior broth). Lots of ginger slices in it. Yummy.

Jin Chwan/Bei Hai seafood restaurant

I had lunch with a friend in Jin Chwan Seafood Garden/Bei Hai Restaurant in Selayang today ( Dec 2007 :D:P). Just pick whatever live seafood from Jin Chwan, pay for it and they'll have it brought over to the restaurant next door for preparation, the way you want it.

Mak Choy with Fu Yu (Vege with fermented beancurd). Simple but nice

Stir fried changgual with dried shrimp ((大头仔). Great stuff

Steamed catfish (Ikan Baung, Pak Sou gong)..what better way to enjoy fresh fish? :-)

Steamed crab with egg ((招牌蒸) the taste of the egg and crab blended in together so wonderfully. Must try!

The seafood in #2, 3, and 4 cost only RM48. Vege, tea, dessert plus cooking charges came to RM62. Altogether RM110. Not too bad.

The two shops are side by side. Once you have selected the seafood you want, Jin Chwan will hand them over to Bei Hai.

Asam Laksa, Selayang Jaya

...from Selayang Jaya. Not the sour type like those from Penang Island. More towards Teochiew style i believe. The husband and wife proprietors actually hail from the same hometown as me .

RM3.50 a bowl. It has all the right herbs in it...absolutely yummy. Shredded fish, finely sliced vegetables including cucumber, onions, red chillis, (no pineapple - that's why it is not too sour), Chinese lettuce, common mint, "daun kesum" (Vietnamese mint or laksa mint) and pink bunga kantan (ginger buds), topped off with "petis udang" or "hae ko" (蝦羔), a thick sweet prawn/shrimp paste.

I always have a bowl there and ta pao (take away) two for later

With prawn fritter.....or at least used to have prawns in it in the good old days. Still nice though.

With shrimp paste too, of course :D

Yum yum, still tasted the same like it did more than 4 decades ago!
