Chen Chen Roast Duck & Goose - Pudu

Chen Chen Hong Kong Goose Duck Chicken in Pudu. There are two others nearby, on the same street. I think I have tried them all and frankly, none impressed me. This one even advertises Hong Kong "Sham Tseng" on the signboard! Sham Tseng is famous for its roast goose!

But since it's been a long time since I last dined there, I went ahead to try this one, again.

Quarter of a goose.

Rather chewy, salty and not very flavorful. Nothing like the ones I have tried in Sham Tseng.

I think I will just go for roast duck and not goose anymore. I'll also stick to safe places like Loong Foong and De Champion.

Nasi Kandar Kampung Attap II

I have been to this nasi kandar/fish head curry stall twice but thought of trying out ZK this time but it was closed for lunch because of Ramadhan. Only opens from 3pm onwards. Then I noticed this stall just next to ZK.

Not many varieties there, probably because it's Ramadhan?

RM8.00 for these.

The squid was quite good. Certain parts were quite chewy but the gravy was nice.

Restoran Ikar Fish Head Noodles

Restoran IKAR fish head noodle specialty restaurant.

I went there wanting to the the curry noodle but the shop was closed. I walked around and found this fish head noodle shop. Why not.

Fish head noodle with beetroot and yam. RM10

I forgot to ask what fish was used, but I think it was haruan.

The reddish color was, of course, from the beetroot. The yam really added nice flavor to the soup. A little bit too much MSG though. The fish fillets also weren't the freshest

Koon Kee wanton mee

Koon Kee wonton noodle stall in Petaling Street.

RM7.00 for this (medium) plate including a glass of hot Chinese tea. Assuming the tea was RM0.50, this plate of noodle was definitely much more expensive that most other places.

But it was very tasty though. Right from the al-dente noodles which were still springy and slightly chewy, to the slightly sweet but tender and flavorful char siew (BBQ pork). I quite like the lean and slightly chewy shreds of poached chicken too.

The wontons weren't bad either.

Tender, flavorful char siew, with a good balance of lean meat and fat!

Wong Ah Wah Grilled Chicken Wing

Wong Ah Wah grilled chicken wing must be the most famous one in Klang Valley. Since I was in town today, I stopped by on the way back to check out how good they were.

Wong Ah Wah grilled chicken wings. RM2.80 each. 3 pieces in this plate (RM8.40)
wong ah wah bbq chicken wings R0021473 copy
The grilled chicken wings were good, probably even slightly better than this one, but that was about it. The chili sauce was really quite flat and rather disappointing. Maybe it was because I was expecting something really exciting and tantalizing like the sauce from YHK.

There were two grilling stations. One inside.

Curry Noodle @ Jalan Alor

A friend of mine told me that this curry noodle stall in Jalan Alor is good and even appeared in our local tv program "Ho Jiak". The name of this stall is actually "Alor Corner Curry Noodle".

We are there at around 4:30pm on a Tuesday and there was no other patron yet at that time.

It looked very nice and appetizing! Tasted very good too.

The gravy was thick and full of santan (lemak). A little on the sweet side but still okay. I liked the texture and flavor of the poached chicken, and also the half cooked cockles (siham).

The chili paste was really different, so should I call it chili sauce. It wasn't really spicy but very fragrant and did add additional kick to the bowl of noodle.

Ais Kacang - Brickfields

I was in Brickfields on a very very hot day. Then I saw this ais kacang stall which I have been to a few times.

Nice refreshing and cooling bowl of ais kacang. I like that they don't use the red syrup on their ABC. Not sure what that red tip was though.

Lots of ingredients in it: grass jelly, cendol noodles, kidney beans, maize, and santan too, I think.
brickfields ais kacang / ais batu campur R0019368 copy

RM3.50. Not cheap. I saw two price list two and didn't know which one to follow. One of them says RM3.50 and the other RM2.50.

Tandoori chicken Restaurant Choice@Melawati

I have been to this place many times but never knew that they served good tandoori chicken until a friend of mine told me :D. A few days ago, I decided to have an early dinner there before heading for night macro!

Tandoori chicken, RM6. Quite tender and not dry. A bit too reddish though and I am always suspicious if there was any artificial coloring used. Quite tasty, but I prefer the one opposite Ampang Park much better.
chicken tandoori / tandoori chicken, restaurant choice, taman melawati R0019370 copy
RM6.00

Cost RM1 more compared to the one in Ampang, but bigger piece of meat, and a big plate of mint sauce, not very concentrated though. The chicken didn't look very juicy here but it was quite tender and juicy! Definitely better than most other tandoori places I have been to.
chicken tandoori / tandoori chicken, restaurant choice, taman melawati R0019371 copy

Garlic naan, RM3.50. Slightly thicker and also slightly more fluffy than the one from Ampang. I think I prefer this version better.

The restaurant is open 24 hours I think, but the tandoori oven will start operating at around 530pm.

Edit:

Nasi kandar with 3 pieces of beef and some vege. RM10!

Sirloin Steak - Outback BB Park

I spotted a nice deal for sirloin steak at Outback on Groupon a few days ago, or maybe it was Living Social :D. Since it had been ages since I last had a good steak, I purchased the deal and also told a few friends about it. They bought it as well and a few days later, we were all there together to enjoy our steak!

I ordered mine medium rare like I also do.

It came with two sides. Vegetables

and mashed potatoes

Say "Aah"!

The deal was RM28 for the steak only. Another RM7.90 for free flow iced lemon tea. The steak was pretty good with nice flavour but I wish it were more tender though.

The service, however, left much to be desired. We didn't get any refill on our iced lemon tea for at least a couple of hours, until we asked one of the staff if refill was allowed?
