Nasi Ayam Sungai Buloh

I passed by this "Nasi Ayam Sungai Buloh" /chicken rice place around noon time a few weeks ago and saw a big crowd there so I told myself I had to come back to try it. It didn't happen until today.

The poached chicken looked quite good. Lots of fat, but lucidly quite tender.

Nice crunchy bean sprout.

I also ordered fish ball. Very different swirl type as you can see here. A bit too soft and soggy for my liking. You can also go for pork ball.

The rice was just plain, no flavor at all. I couldn't detect any ginger in it. The chili sauce wasn't potent enough. I also wished there were ginger sauce as well.

It is just next to Hong Leong bank, and at the same block as Kong Mah dim sum.

Teochew Pork Noodle-Fock Seng Sg Buloh

I was in Bandar Baru Sungai Buloh to try out the pork noodle in Mun Yick which I have been told was good. Unfortunately, it was closed. Only opens for breakfast I think. So I walked around a little bit and found this Teochew pork noodle stall in Fock Seng Restaurant a couple of blocks away.

I actually saw this on a couple of tables. It looked really good to me so I looked around and found the stall selling this and ordered myself a bowl!

Only RM4.00

Siew Kee Dim Sum Sungai Buloh

I saw an offer on LivingSocial for dim sum cash vouchers at Siew Kee so I bought two of it. Each voucher cost RM10 and is good for RM20 cash at the outlet.

Hong Kong style steamed cheong fun with prawns. Not freshly prepared as the dish was served really fast. Not very good, the noodle was thick and not very tender.RM3.80

Steamed Chicken feet (Fong Chow) with bean sauce. Nice and so tender the skin/flesh falls off the bones as soon as you put it into your mouth. RM4.00

Lau Sha Pao with yam paste. RM4.80. I found the skin/dough to be way too thick, and the yam paste/cream in it too thick and not runny at all. Very different from the other flavour - custard and egg yolk I have tasted before where the paste was creamy yet runny, ready to ooze out as soon as you take a bite!

See what I meant when I said the skin/dough was too thick?

Shanghai Xiao Long Bao. RM5.80. Absolutely horrible. One out of the three bao's was completely dry inside, and the other two hardly had any juice left. Houston, we have leakage problem! I think this item should just be taken off the menu.

Where is the juice? Look at that poor, wrinkly, skinny bao :(
shanghai xiao long bao R0019737 copy

Oh well, I will just add lots of vinegar and julienned ginger on it before eating.

Siew Mai. RM4.00. Not very good either. Lots of chewy tendon in the meat.

All the 5 items above and one hot Chinese Tea came to RM22.40. I used one of my LivingSocial RM10 vouchers (= RM20 cash) so in actual, it cost me only RM12.40.

Edit: 2nd visit, and surely the last, just to use up my other RM10 voucher.

Seafood la mian, RM14.80. Three prawns, two green mussels, two scallops, calamari/squid rings and some la la clams minus shells.

The seafood just felt overcooked and tough, especially the mussels and scallops.

The la mian noodle wasn't well prepared I think. All crinkly and not straight.

Pork Ball Noodle - Sungai Buloh

I passed by Sungai Buloh at around lunch time and thought I might as well stopped by there to have a quick lunch. I parked at the open car park just next to the wet market. I saw a really busy chicken rice outlet but since I just had chicken hor fun yesterday, I decided not to try it this time and looked for something else, and finally settled for this pork ball noodle I first saw before I parked my car.

Only one slice of soft sausage.

Restoran LYJ Poon Choi

I have heard so much about Poon Choi but have never had a chance to try it so when a friend suggested Restoran LYJ, we made reservation and a few weeks later, 12 of us gathered there in Restoran LYJ for a wonderful dinner together.

Since I have been to Kampung Baru Sungai Buloh a few times, and I checked out the location on google map, it was really easy to find the restaurant.

Restoran LYJ Poon Choi. We ordered the most basic version i.e no abalone, no scallops or other expensive ingredient.

What's in it? Roast duck, fried prawns, poached free range chicken, boneless stuffed fish, broccoli, cauliflower, dried oysters, chestnuts, braised chicken feet, braised pork, mushrooms etc. Warning: it's very oily :D

Dong Duk Gai. Served as it was. You were provided with a pair of scissors, and gloves. We made a few cuts and started to rip the flesh out.

Deep Fried Fish with petai
Restoran LYJ Petai Fish R0017350 copy

The sauces in the Poon Choi and the deep fried fish were all on the heavy side. Best to go with steamed rice. You wouldn't be able to eat the dishes on their owns. I wouldn't call these great, but if you haven't tried it, it is really worth trying, especially with a bunch of friends :)

The Poon Choi was RM288 and came with a complimentary plate of stir fried watercress (sai yeung choi). The Poon Choy alone was enough to feed 12 adults, but we ordered Dong Duk Gai and Fried fish with Petai too.  It all came to about RM380 including the Dong Duk Gai and Deep fried fish with petai. That's about RM32 each for 12 pax.
