Croisette Cafe - Bangsar

A few of us had a lovely early Christmas dinner at this cosy little pool-side cafe in the Cascadium condo, Bangsar.

Smoked Salmon on cucumber tagliatelle with lemon and chives cream, and dill garnishing.

Soup Prawn Bisque, and Crouton with Rouille and Emmenthal cheese

The rouille was slightly spicy and the bisque was full of prawn flavor! Great combination!

Fresh Barramundi fillet in lightly curry flavoured pumpkin sauce.

Even though I love fish, this was actually my least favorite dish of all. While I tend to lean towards more natural flavor, this one is slightly bland for my liking. The lightly curry-flavored pumpkin sauce is rather mild too and doesn't help to bring out the taste of the fish.

The "bark" was made from bitter sweet dark chocolate but I am not sure about the filling. But I will tell you that I can finish the whole log by myself :D. Yes, it was that great!

Restoran San Lee - Batu Caves

This place is quite hidden and if my friends didn't bring me there, I wouldn't have known about its existence! We actually wanted to go to Pan Heong but it was packed to the brim with no seats available so my friends suggested we go to Restoran San Lee instead.

Pai Kuat Wong (King Spare Ribs)

Nicely marinated and flavourful pork rib, in thick, tangy and sour (but not too sour) sauce.

Sar hor fun. I probably liked this dish the least because I disliked how the hor fun noodle all lumped up together.

Fried rice with lap cheong. Full of wok hei, and loaded with generous amount of lap cheong. Really yummy!

Fu yu yau mak, stir fried Chinese lettuce with fermented beancurd. Not the best I have tried. Wished the chef had put in more fu yu / fermented beancurd, but the lettuce was very fresh and crunchy so it was still quite good!

The four dishes you see above and a pot of hot Chinese tea and a bucket of ice came to a total of RM37.

There is no signboard on the outside, but as soon as you walk in, you will see this.

Many other dishes are available too, sang yu porridge, frog porridge and etc.

Edit: a different visit

Fried rice again. We were disappointed that the cook replaced lap cheong with char siew:(. It was didn't taste as good anymore :(

La Mian - Happy City Food Court

Happy City Food Court is just next to Carrefour Kepong and you can't miss it when you pass by. You can park inside Carrefour for free and walk over.

I have actually eaten the la mian here before but forgot what it tasted like, and for the sake of blogging, I ordered this again when I was there a few days ago!

La mian with pork and mushroom. RM5.00
la mian R0019974 copy

la mian R0019971 copy

I didn't set my expectation too high but yet I was still quite disappointed with the la mian. The noodle was just too soggy and totally lacked the firmness/ springiness I liked.
la mian / ramen R0019978 copy

I also ordered the pig stomach soup. RM6.50 without rice.
pig stomach soup R0019982 copy

It was very different from our local version. This China version had so many things in it: peanut, chicken feet, pork, and of course pig stomach.
pig stomach soupR0019983 copy
Anyway, I didn't like it much as all the ingredients in it seemed hard and needed a few more hours of simmering to make them nice and tender. The peanuts, while cooked, were still crunchy. The pig stomach was quite chewy too. The soup was not peppery enough for me either.

This stall is manned by this China lady.

Norway salmon fish head noodle-Kepong

I drove by this area last week and saw a fish head noodle outlet. Must be quite new. Like all things fish, this place caught my attention. A week later, I drove by again and decided to stop by to try out the fish head noodle there.

I normally go for clear soup without milk but I saw that they have curry version too so I decided to go for this.

Only RM7.50. (RM8.50 now after promotional period) The curry gravy was quite good, and more importantly, the fish was fresh too!

Four pieces of fish head parts.

Only one type of noodle but that's not a problem for me. I like the al dente noodle. It didn't get soggy at all even towards the end.

Only bones left, and I finished the curry gravy too! :D

Located just behind Kepong's Crystal Crown Hotel.

Only one type of noodle so ordering is quite simple. Either fried or un-fried fish head, or prawns, in either clear soup or curry.

Noodle - only one type
Fish/prawn - fish, prawn, or mixed
Soup - clear or curry
norway fish head noodle kepong R0019907 copy

I think RM7.50 is promotional price.(RM8.50 now)
norway fish head noodle menu R0019908 copy

I like this place and I will come back to try other items on the menu. But the black coffee was super expensive though. RM2.50? Well, I didn't ask for a breakdown, but if the noodle was RM7.50 as shown on the menu, then the black coffee had to be RM2.50, right?

Edit: confirmed that black coffee (kopi-o) is RM2.50. See my second visit entry below.

For my second visit, I opted for spicy and sour soup type.

Spicy and sour Norway salmon fish head noodle

The soup was really nice. Just the right amount of spiciness and sourness in it!

There were 4 chilies like this in the broth.

For my next visit, I will try the clear soup type (cheng tong).

3rd visit:
Fish head and prawns curry noodle. RM14!!! Overpriced as normal fish head curry noodle is like RM8.50, which meant four medium/medium small prawn cost me RM5.50!!!

Totally not worth it IMO.
