Ais Kacang - Brickfields

I was in Brickfields on a very very hot day. Then I saw this ais kacang stall which I have been to a few times.

Nice refreshing and cooling bowl of ais kacang. I like that they don't use the red syrup on their ABC. Not sure what that red tip was though.


Lots of ingredients in it: grass jelly, cendol noodles, kidney beans, maize, and santan too, I think.


RM3.50. Not cheap. I saw two price list two and didn't know which one to follow. One of them says RM3.50 and the other RM2.50.





This place is right outside 7-Eleven, behind YMCA. I have tried their cendol too but that was quite long ago and no photos. Forgot what it tasted like too :D. Well, next time!

Char Kueh Teow - PJ State

I am always on the look-out for nice char kueh teow / char kway teow / char kuey teow / char koay teow in KL/PJ so when I heard someone claimed that this stall fries the best CKT in the Klang Valley, I immediately went there to try it out.

This stall is one of the many in Kam Heong coffee shop. The prawn mee there is okay too, and at night, they sell really great Teochew style braised duck / lo ack / lou ngap.

I must say as soon as I saw my plate of CKT, I knew it was going to be great. First, I don't like my kueh teow noodle to be too thick and wide. The noodles were all short and broken too. I like my kueh teow noodles to be thin, narrow, and smooth, and they must not stick together. You need to "massage" your kueh teow noodles and separate those that stick together prior to frying.

Taste wise, it didn't do it for me either. I think the one I like the best so far in the KL/PJ is this one.

Char Kueh Teow - PJ Old Town

So I heard about another place with great char kueh teow / char kuey teow / char kway teow / char koay teow. I made a visit and again, was rather disappointed.

More or less the same type of wide and thick kuey teow that the stall in PJ State is using. Even the style of frying was quite similar too. Can't say I enjoyed it. It was just okay!





The name of the coffe shop is Tai Wah but there is no sign board on the outside though. Looks for 90A.






No signboard on the outside, but once you get in, you can see that the name of the shop is Tai Wah. Anyway, this is directly facing the Old Town wet market, on Jalan Othman.

I have tried the CKT from quite a few outlets, and the one I like the best is this one.

Ipoh Hor Fun - Damansara Perdana

This place was where I first tried the Ipoh hor fun and I used to enjoy eating there. But I guess I have changed or improved? :D

I rarely order the dry type but since I was in the mood for something different, I went for this instead. I didn't like it though. I think I will go back to the clear soup hor fun. The hor fun wasn't very smooth and all stuck together. Maybe I took too long to take photos?


The chicken was really really fat. While it was tender, for something this fat, I expect it to be really really tender! I hated the oyster sauce. Felt like there was tons of MSG in it. Sure enough, as soon as I finished eating, the MSG-induced thirst started kicking in!

By now, I think I have a clear preference of the type of  poached chicken I like. That would be the type in 15 Tower, Ipoh - not the most tender, but it has nice texture and flavour to it.

Look at how much fat I trimmed out! Yuck!


The bean sprouts were way too soggy and not very crunchy! Really sub par!


I ordered shrimp wanton as well. Only about half of the wantons were crunchy while the rest were not. Didn't taste very fresh!


The four items above, together with a glass of hot Chinese tea, cost me RM12!!!

I personally think taste and price wise, this outlet is far behind the one in TTDI.

Tandoori chicken Restaurant Choice@Melawati

I have been to this place many times but never knew that they served good tandoori chicken until a friend of mine told me :D. A few days ago, I decided to have an early dinner there before heading for night macro!

Tandoori chicken, RM6. Quite tender and not dry. A bit too reddish though and I am always suspicious if there was any artificial coloring used. Quite tasty, but I prefer the one opposite Ampang Park much better.

Cost RM1 more compared to the one in Ampang, but bigger piece of meat, and a big plate of mint sauce, not very concentrated though. The chicken didn't look very juicy here but it was quite tender and juicy! Definitely better than most other tandoori places I have been to.


Garlic naan, RM3.50. Slightly thicker and also slightly more fluffy than the one from Ampang. I think I prefer this version better.


The restaurant is open 24 hours I think, but the tandoori oven will start operating at around 530pm.

Edit:

Nasi kandar with 3 pieces of beef and some vege. RM10!
